We're busy, busy, busy here in Alder East. As you know, we continue to work on our human body systems unit, Code Blue. Students continue to hone their research skills as they investigate in preparation for presenting their case at Grand Rounds. In addition to Code Blue, we are three weeks into independent project season. Thank you to all of you for getting your responses in about presentation dates. I did my best to accommodate all requests. I appreciate your flexibility, and your students will certainly appreciate your support on presentation day. Please keep in mind, this is their project. With the exception of a ride to the library, the craft supply store, or the grocery store (Thank you!), they should be on their own. In case you somehow missed it, there is an addition to the expectations this year. All 5/6th graders are required to write a research paper to accompany their project or presentation. This will serve as a final assessment on each students skills related to research writing. Individuals are expected to make a minimum of 3 citations within the paper. Additionally, all students should attach a bibliography listing a 3-5 sources. Not all sources need to be cited in the paper (and once source may be used for more than one citation). This requirement is to ensure students are doing adequate research, and are able to demonstrate proficiency with these skills. Look for an attachment to the homework letter this Friday outlining these specifics for the research paper portion of the assignment, and a timeline going forward.
